Ford and Volkswagen have signed a Collaboration for Commercial Vehicles

Ford and Volkswagen AG have signed today (10 June) a huge cooperation on the development for midsize pickup trucks and commercial and Electric Vehicles. The collaboration with Ford is a key building block of the VW GRIP 2025+ strategy and part of the VW Commercial vehicle transformation (new products, conversion of plants, development of new mobility services).

This long-term cooperation will strengthen Ford and VW good position in area of light commercial vehicles, especially on European markets.

The alliance will:

  • Produce a medium pickup truck engineered and built by Ford, for sale by VW as the Amarok starting in 2022 within the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle (VWCV) lineup

  • Further strengthen the commercial-vehicles businesses of both companies as early as 2021 – with a city delivery van based on the latest Caddy model, developed and built by VWCV and later a 1-ton cargo van created by Ford

  • Lead to a highly differentiated Ford electric vehicle for Europe by 2023 built on VW MEB platform, expanding on Ford’s zero-emission capabilities in the region

During the lifecycles of the products, they expect to produce together up to 8 million vehicles (medium pickup trucks and commercial vans)

Let’s remind that Ford and VW have just signed up a common project on autonomous vehicle development with Argo AI. In 2022, they want to deploy a self-driving fleet in real conditions. This test should the first level-4 deployment using fully electric ID.BUZZ vehicles
